Sodatide inulin: what 211 mg of chicory root fiber means for label readers
Sodatide inulin is chicory root inulin, a soluble fiber, at 211 mg per capsule. That is the largest of the three actives. Studies on inulin used 12 to 21 grams a day, far more than one capsule holds, and no study has tested Sodatide itself. At this amount, fiber side effects should be mild or absent for most adults.
What is Sodatide inulin?
Sodatide inulin is chicory root inulin. The label names it as Chicory Root Inulin, with the plant Cichorium intybus (root) beneath it, at 211 mg per capsule. Daily Value is not established, so a dagger sits in the percent column.
Chicory is a leafy plant with a long, pale root. Inulin is pulled from that root and dried to a powder. It is a soluble fiber made of chains of fructose sugar. Your small intestine cannot break those chains. So the inulin passes through to the colon, where bacteria ferment it.
Bifidobacteria are among the bacteria that feed on inulin. That is why inulin is one of the most studied prebiotics. A prebiotic is a fiber that your own gut cannot digest and that bacteria in the colon eat instead.
| Label line | Value | Plain meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Chicory Root Inulin | Inulin taken from the root of the chicory plant |
| Amount per capsule | 211 mg | The largest of the three actives |
| Daily Value | Not established | No official daily target, so no percent is printed |
| Capsules per day | 1 | 30 capsules in a bottle, a 30-day supply |
Key facts
- Each Sodatide capsule has 211 mg of chicory root inulin.
- Inulin is a soluble fiber that reaches the colon, where bacteria ferment it.
- Studies on inulin used 12 to 21 grams a day. One capsule holds about a fifth of a gram.
- No study has tested Sodatide itself.
- The two fibers together are 311 mg, about 0.3 grams.
- Gas and bloating were the main complaints at 5 to 10 grams a day, far above this dose.
- Daily Value is not established, so the label shows a dagger.
How much Sodatide inulin is 211 mg?
211 mg is a small amount. A gram is 1,000 mg, so one capsule holds about a fifth of a gram of inulin. The potato resistant starch adds 100 mg, so the two fibers together come to 311 mg, or about 0.3 grams.
Our post on 311 mg of fiber against the 28 g Daily Value shows how small that is next to the reference amount used on food labels. The point is not that small is bad. The point is that you should know the scale before you expect a big change.
| Study | Inulin or related fiber used | Length | What was measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micka et al., 2017 | 12 g a day of chicory inulin | 4 weeks | Stools went from 3.0 to 4.0 a week. Gas rose slightly. |
| Cani et al., 2009 | 16 g a day of a related fiber | Length not stated here | Hunger fell and fullness hormones rose |
| Parnell and Reimer, 2009 | 21 g a day | 12 weeks | People ate less and lost about 1 kg |
| Bonnema et al., 2010 | 5 to 10 g a day | Tolerance tests | Gas and bloating were the main complaints |
Twelve grams is 12,000 mg. That is about 57 times the amount in one capsule. Twenty-one grams is about 100 times. No study has tested Sodatide itself.
What can Sodatide inulin do at this dose?
Be careful here. The studies above used much larger amounts, so their results do not carry over to one capsule. We can say what the inulin is meant to do and what the label claims. We cannot say what it will do for you.
The label makes three claims: metabolic and digestive support, support for appetite control and satiety, and support for energy production from fats. Each ends in an asterisk, and the FDA has not evaluated them. The label makes no weight-loss claim.
The seller’s own sample feedback says most buyers wait three to four weeks before they judge it, and many felt little in week one. That is unverified. A short log is the best way to see if you notice anything. Our post on the four-week log shows one.
Can Sodatide inulin cause gas or bloating?
It can, but the effect depends on dose. Gas and bloating were the main complaints when people took 5 and 10 grams of chicory inulin a day. Native inulin was well tolerated up to 10 grams. In a 12-gram trial, gas rose only slightly.
One Sodatide capsule is far below those amounts. That keeps fiber effects mild or absent for most people. A little bloating in the first days is still the usual first sign of added fiber.
- Take the capsule with the full 8 oz. glass of water the label asks for.
- Take it at the same time each day so your gut gets used to it.
- Add high-fiber foods slowly if you also change your diet.
- Stop and call a doctor for diarrhea that lasts more than a few days, blood in the stool or sharp belly pain.
Our post on gas, bloating and diarrhea has more on what to watch for.
Is Sodatide inulin counted as fiber on the label?
Label readers often ask why the panel has no line for total dietary fiber. Total dietary fiber does have a Daily Value. This panel lists the two fibers by name instead, so no fiber percentage appears. That is a choice of format, not a hidden fact.
The words fiber and prebiotic are not the same thing either. Our post on why fiber has an FDA definition and prebiotic does not explains the difference.
For a plain comparison of the two fibers in the capsule, see inulin versus resistant starch.
Who should ask a doctor about Sodatide inulin?
Fiber is gentle for most healthy adults, but not for everyone. The product is made for adults 18 and over. The label asks pregnant or nursing mothers and anyone with a known medical condition to see a physician first. If you have a gut condition or take blood sugar medicine, ask your doctor before you add any fiber supplement.
The blend also holds live bacteria. People with weak immune systems should ask first. Take the bottle, or a clear photo of its label, to your visit. The side effects page has the full list of cautions.
If you want a lot more fiber, food and fiber powders can close the gap. Raise fiber slowly. The gut health guide shows the research with every study linked.
Frequently asked questions
How much inulin is in Sodatide?
Each capsule holds 211 mg of chicory root inulin. Together with 100 mg of potato resistant starch, the two fibers come to 311 mg.
Is 211 mg of inulin enough?
It is far below the 12 to 21 grams a day used in studies. The label makes support claims only, with no promise of size or speed.
Where does the inulin come from?
The label names chicory root, Cichorium intybus (root), as the source.
Can Sodatide inulin cause gas?
It can at gram doses. At one capsule, the amount is far lower, so side effects should be mild or absent for most people.
Why is there a dagger instead of a percent?
The dagger means Daily Value not established. No official daily target exists for inulin, so no percentage can be printed.
Who should ask a doctor first?
Pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18, anyone with a known medical condition, anyone on medicine and anyone with a weak immune system.
Our view
Sodatide inulin is a modest, well-labelled amount of a common food fiber. At 211 mg it is a small dose next to study doses, so the sensible view is to treat the capsule as a simple daily habit and not as a gram-dose fiber product.
That is also why the label stays with soft support claims. If you want to know whether it suits you, a short log and the 60-day window give you a fair way to find out. If you have a health condition or take medicine, ask your doctor first.
